Despite post-mortem of the CBI key witness Yunus Khan, whose body was exhumed on late Saturday night after his death under mysterious circumstances on August 18, the cause of his death could not be ascertained.

Doctors who conducted the autopsy are still not certain on the reasons for his death. However they did not rule the out possibility of suspected poisoning. “We have preserved the viscera which will be sent for the chemical analysis to check suspected poisoning,” said Dr Ashutosh, who conducted the post-mortem.

The autopsy was to be conducted o Sunday but it was done late Saturday night due to tension in Maakhi village in Unnao. The second wife Sabina Khatoon and another brother of Yunus Rais Khan had protested the police and CBI move to exhume body for autopsy on the complaint of gang-rape minor victim’s family.

“It is against Shariat to exhume body after burial,” stated Sabina. They also held a protest outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence in Luck now on Saturday afternoon against attempts to dig out Yunus' body. However, the police sent them back to Unnao.

The Superintendent of Police Unnao Harish Kumar said that the protest by the family was ignored over the rule of the law. The police managed to exhume the body in the presence of Maulanas and sent it for autopsy.  Yunus Khan was a key CBI witness in the case related to brutal assault on the father of the gang-rape victim on April 4 by BJP MLA Kudleep Singh Sengar’s brother Atul Singh Sengar and four others.

Khan had seen the assault by BJP MLA’s brother and had given a written six-page statement to the CBI narrating the incident. He had also assured the CBI to appear before the court during trial against the accused. Later, the victim’s father succumbed to injuries in police custody on April 9 forcing the Chief Minister to order a CBI inquiry. The BJP MLA, his brother and several others are behind jail in connection with the gang-rape of minor girl and custodial death of his father due to assault.
