Reach 1, then Reach 2. Metro all set to reach Bangalore

Work on the six stations of Reach 1 of Metro is on. The stations are expected to be ready by March 2011.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has not provided for dedicated parking areas in and around any of these six stations, at Byappanahalli, Old Madras Road, Indiranagar, CMH Road, Ulsoor and Trinity Circle. The space beneath the elevated tracks, however, could be converted into parking lots.

BMRCL is working in coordination with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) for the provision of a feeder bus system, so that people can reach their destination from the station without using private transport.

BMTC officials said that routes of feeder buses for all the stations of Reach 1 have been identified, and the services will start soon as the metro is thrown open to the public.

The BMRCL has recommended that fares for the feeder bus service be uniform, regardless of distance from station to destination. BMTC will run two buses in clockwise and anti-clockwise directions around each station.

Meanwhile, Reach 2 of the metro is catching pace. Nearly 81 of 241 piers have been built, and 602 segments of the elevated tracks out of 2,106 have been constructed. Walls for the six stations of Reach 2 have just been raised.

Reach 2 starts from Magadi Road and stretches till Mysore Road, the terminating point for the east-west corridor of Phase 1, covering a distance of 17.9 km. The six stations on Reach 2 are: Magadi Road, Toll Gate, Hosahalli, Vijaynagar, Deepanjali Nagar and Mysore Road.

This stretch, which will extend from City Railway Station to Mysore Road, is due to be commissioned by August 2012.
