In the Delhi BJP, Bidhuri has held various positions, including the posts of general secretary and vice-president.
Ramesh Bidhuri, a BJP member from South Delhi, incited a significant political uproar with his offensive comments on BSP’s Dansih Ali. The comments were made by Bidhuri on Thursday night during the Lok Sabha's discussion about Chandrayaan-3. The comments went viral on X (previously Twitter) on Friday and have since been deleted. While the BJP has given Bidhuri a show-cause notice, Ali has called for action against him.
The 62-year-old, who represented South Delhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, has been involved in politics since his college years. Bidhuri served as the Delhi BJP's vice president from 2003 until 2008. Till 2014, Bidhuri had won Delhi Assembly polls three times. He served three terms as a Delhi Tughlaqabad MLA.
His victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha election marked his second straight triumph after his victory in the 2014 General Election. The South Delhi MP has a degree in commerce. He has a legal degree as well. According to the 2019 data, there were four criminal cases pending against Bidhuri.
This is not the first time that Bidhuri has been embroiled in a controversy. In order to criticise Congress, he had previously brought up Sonia Gandhi's Italian background. Bidhuri said at a rally in Mathura that having children and grandchildren within seven months was not "Bhartiya sanskar". Bidhuri made the comments in response to the Congress's criticism of the BJP's "acche din" and failing to keep its promises. Five female lawmakers complained to the then-Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan about Bidhuri, sparking a political controversy even in 2015. The BJP member allegedly made sexist comments in front of the House, according to the five female MPs Sushmita Dev, Ranjeet Ranjan, Arpita Ghosh, PK Sreemathi Teacher, and Supriya Sule.
During the Lok Sabha election campaign, Bidhuri's supporters and Raghav Chadha, the AAP's candidate from South Delhi, had a confrontation when their paths crossed in the constituency.
A year later, Chadha got fresh ammunition against Bidhuri when a video of him using “derogatory” language against farmers protesting against the Centre’s now-repealed farm laws at Delhi’s borders had gone viral.
Several opposition parties rallied behind Ali with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary K C Venugopal visiting the BSP leader and expressing solidarity with him. Later in a tweet, Gandhi posted pictures with Ali and said, “Nafrat ke bazaar mein mohabbat ki dukaan (shop for spreading love in market of hate).” Congress’ leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, TMC’s Aparupa Poddar, DMK’s Kanimozhi and NCP leader Supriya Sule wrote to Birla over the issue and demanded that the matter be sent to the privileges committee.
A day after Bidhuri’s remarks, Ali described these as “hate speech” and demanded the suspension of the ruling party’s lawmaker from the House.
