A pornographic clip on one of the large LED advertisement screens at the busy Rajiv Chowk Metro station in the afternoon went viral on social media on Saturday, and many commuters paused to record the video. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Delhi police are investigating the matter. No case has been registered so far.
The video surfaced in one of the 12-grid LED screens at the Metro station. The 30-second clip showed some people recording a bit of porn being played on the small grid while others were busy changing lines without bothering to watch it. Sources said that, on April 9 also, a video had played on the screen. The DMRC is verifying the claim.
DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said: "The DMRC is not aware about the clip. The LED screen was being tested by a private contractor and it is yet to be commissioned." He said that all details of the testing and commissioning process will be checked. We are also checking whether such a clip was indeed played and we will take adequate safeguards.
"From preliminary investigation, it is established that the April 9 incident occurred around 5pm. The LED TV (Smart TV with multiple features) system was under commissioning and Wi-Fi port was accessible. As per CCTV footage, three men played porn clip through their mobile phones. Attempts are being made to identify them men. This sort of interference with the system will not be possible, once the software is programmed and centrally controlled. In the interim, during the commissioning process itself the contractor will be advised to ensure password protection," he said.
Though the Delhi police have not received any complaint, they have taken suo motu cognizance and are investigating the issue. "The video was sent to us by the media. An officer of the rank of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) has been asked to investigate. We are trying to find out who played the video," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Metro, Jitender Mani.
Metro authorities suffered a huge dent to its image as people took to social media and castigated it. From sarcastic tweets mocking the corporation to angry outbursts to moral sermons, people took to Twitter and other social networking sites to give vent to their anger.
