Night curfew extended till May 18 in 36 cities of Gujarat - know what's allowed, what is not

Amid the growing COVID-19 cases, the night curfew in 36 cities of Gujarat has been extended by a week till May 18. The night curfew timings in Gujarat are from 8 pm to 6 am. Gujarat recorded 11,592 new COVID-19 cases along with 117 deaths in a single day.

Apart from the night curfew, the state has also imposed certain other daytime restrictions till May 12 to check the spread of the virus. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had earlier ruled out possibilities of imposing a lockdown in the state and so a curfew was imposed in the state.

Only shops and business establishments dealing with essential items are permitted to operate during the day in all these 36 cities. Markets and shops selling vegetables and fruits, bakeries, hotels, and restaurants having a takeaway facility were allowed to operate.

An alarming increase in mucormycosis cases, a fungal infection as a post-COVID complication has also been reported in large numbers from the state. More than 100 cases of mucormycosis, also known as black fungus, have been notified across state government hospitals and Gujarat Medical Education Research Society (GMERS) hospitals, the government said.

What is allowed, what is not

Since there has been no restriction on inter-state and inter-district travel, buses have been operating with a maximum capacity of 50%.

Schools, colleges, and other educational institutions like coaching centres, cinemas, parks, spas and salons, and gyms have been shut down.

All industries and private firms in the state are operating with a maximum of 50% staff in attendance. Gujarat government offices are also supposed to follow these guidelines.
