The Bhiwandi police has arrested five persons in connection with the SSC board exam paper leak. While the alleged mastermind, an advocate named Sameer Fauji, is still at large, the cops have arrested his driver Mubbi and chief exam conductor Amber Ansari.

On March 13, the Mathematics paper for Class 10 SSC exam was leaked on WhatsApp an hour before the exam was to start. This was followed by the Science I paper that was leaked on March 15, Science II paper on March 18, and the History and Civics paper on March 20.

The Narpoli police then interrogated Amber Malik Afroz Ansari, vice-principal of the Kakatiya High School and chief conductor of the examination. "Malik was entrusted with the responsibility of collecting question papers, and was arrested on March 22," said inspector P Bhalerao of the Narpoli police station.

Malik then confessed to his crime.

"He also confessed that he offered coaching to the daughter of advocate Samir Fauji from Bhiwandi. And to help her secure better marks in SSC, Fauji asked Ansari to WhatsApp the papert to him," Bhalerao said.

Fauji's daughter studies in the local Holy Mary School. On March 13 and 15, Ansari collected the paper from the centre, clicked their photos using his phone, and sent it to Fauji. "In order to avoid hassles in case he were to get caught later, Fauji had his driver Mobin Mehmood Fakki alias Mubbi click the pictures and send it to him for the Science II and History papers," Bhalerao added.

Based on his confession, the cops arrested Mubbi on Friday. But Fauji is still missing.

Interestingly, the incident comes at the same time as another similar case that hit Bhiwandi. Sheikh Vazir Hafizur Rehman, owner of Career education classes, along with a tutor Naved Ansari, befriended Sajid Kharbe, the chief conductor of exams at the Rafiuddin Faki Boys high school at Islampur near Bhiwandi. Kharbe also sent question papers to Rehman over WhatsApp, who in turn would forward it to his students and owners of other coaching classes. In the latter incident, the police arrested Rehman, Ansari and Intekhab Patel (the coaching class owner), while Kharbe and Azgar Ali Barot (owner of another coaching class) are absconding.
