Madras HC directs speedy clearance of sexual abuse cases

Seeking to render speedy justice in cases of sexual assault against women, Madras High Court has directed its registry here to accord priority to appeal petitions relating to such crimes.

These appeal cases should be given priority while listing by the registry, according to a communication from the principal bench received at the Madurai Bench of the court.

The objective of the direction was to give punishment to the guilty at the earliest, court sources said.

Several criminal cases relating to sexual harassment, abuse were pending in the High Court bench here, they said.
