Karnataka govt formation: JD(S) - Congress meet Governor, says Vajubhai Vala assured to take action as per Constitution

Amid intense jockeying for power in Karnataka, the JD(S)-Congress combine on Wednesday met Governor Vajubhai Vala and submitted necessary documents showing requisite numbers in their favour.

A delegation led by chief ministerial candidate HD Kumaraswamy met Governor and submitted a list of 117 MLAs.

"We have submitted the necessary documents which show that we have the numbers required to form the government. He (Governor) promised that he will consider according to the Constitution," said Kumaraswamy.

Senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar said that they have full faith in Governor that he will not do injustice. "We have our numbers, not even a single member has moved out. We will not allow any such thing to happen," he said.

According to sources, the elected MLAs of Congress - JD(S) have also threatened to sit on 'dharna' outside Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru if they are not invited by the Governor to form the government.

The May 12 Assembly election has thrown up a fractured verdict with the BJP emerging as the single largest party with 104 seats in the 224-member house, falling eight seats short of the 112 needed to form a government in the state. The Congress won 78 seats and the JD(S) 37.

The JD(S)-Congress combine's chief ministerial candidate HD Kumaraswamy has claimed the BJP offered his MLAs Rs 100 crore in bribes to break ranks and back the BJP in government formation, a charge rejected by the saffron party.

"Our MLAs were offered Rs 100 crore by the BJP to break away. I want to know whether this is black or white money," Kumaraswamy told a press conference.

The rival camps have intensified efforts to outmanoeuvre each other in the race for forming the government.

Union minister Prakash Javadekar, however, rubbished JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy's charge that the BJP was offering Rs 100 crore to wean away his party MLAs in its bid to form a government in Karnataka, saying it is 'imaginary'.

"Rs 100 crore, Rs 200 crore figures are imaginary. The BJP is not doing anything. This is the kind of politics the JD(S) and Congress play," he told reporters here.
