BJD's Sarmistha Sethi won against BJP's Amiya Kanta Mallick by 101693 votes

At 8 PM, BJD's Sarmistha Sethi is leading against BJP's Amiya Kanta Mallick by 100124 votes. 

Jajpur Lok Sabha constituency profile: 

Jajpur in coastal Odisha is another seat which has been a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) bastion for a long time. 

The party has won the seat continuously since 1999, and in its earlier avatar of Janata Dal won in 1996, 1991 and 1989. In the last Lok Sabha election, Rita Tarai won by impressive 3.20 lakh margin over Congress candidate. BJP came third in the election. 

This time though, BJD has dropped their incumbent MP and fielded a former bureaucrat from this SC reserved seat. Sarmistha Sethi who was part of Odisha State Administrative Service is BJD's candidate. She is facing BJP's Amiya Kanta Mallick and Manas Jena of Congress. 

The assembly segments under Jajpur are Binjharpur, Bari,Barachana, Dharmasala,Jajpur,Korei and Sukinda.  Historically, Congress has won the seat 5 times, though their last success came way back in 1999.  Jajpur Lok Sabha constituency goes to polls on April 29.  It is one of the seats BJD is confident of retaining.
