The Delhi High Court on Tuesday upheld the Central government's 10 day ban of Comedy Central, a channel owned by Viacom 18. The High Court took action keeping into account the material shown on the TV shows Stand Up Club and Popcorn which it said objectified women as "commodity of sex". The Indian government in calling for the channel's ban claimed that the airing of the show Stand Up Club would “deprave, corrupt and injure the public morality and morals”.
According to LiveMint, the channel is set to lose revenue to the tune of Rs 60 lakh for the period. The government may have succesfully banned the channel, but people have not taken it quietly, expressing their concerns on the social platform Twitter.

Mocking a daily newspaper one users wrote:
If the court really wanted to do something about sexualised content distributed publicly they should've banned ToI ages ago #comedycentral

Others took the ban quite seriously writing about the condition of the country and the ban:
It's okay, we can just call this country Comedy Central India and everything still makes sense.

We're okay with people getting raped, kids getting abused on a daily basis, but harmless humour? Of course not. #comedycentral

You can't have your Comedy Nights with Kapil and ban your #ComedyCentral too. #UpdatedProverbs

We Indians are good at getting offended. After jokes on religion, politics, feminism, we now get offended by adult jokes too. #ComedyCentral

Proud to have a culture that's amazing, strong, been around for 1000s of years; and yet, sensitive enough to be damaged by Comedy Central.

Some mocked the quality of cinema produced by Bollywood saying that India is still not at par with the standard of comedies produced by the west:
We live in a country where they ban channels like Comedy Central and expect us to laugh at movies like Humshakals. #TragedyCentral

Taking shots at the ancient Khajuraho temples, people also mocked the 'moral police' of India.
Comedy Central to go off-air for shows contrary to 'Indian culture'. Maybe we should also paint clothes on those sculptures at Khajuraho
