The HRD ministry has scrapped its plan to conduct the UG Medical exam NEET online twice  year. The NTA released a schedule in which it announced that NEET would be held on May 5, 2019 with pen and paper.

The change was one of the major ones announced. In July, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar had announced that NEET and JEE would be held biannually from next year, a decision which has been scrapped for NEET.

It had earlier said, that NTA will hold the NEET exam in February and May, while engineering aspirants will be able to take the JEE(Mains) in January and April.

The plan was that students could appear twice in in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the best of the two scores will be considered  for admission, the minister had said. NEET is conducted for admissions to medical colleges across the country.

NET, a qualifying test for admission in higher educational institutions in the country, will be the first exam to be conducted by the newly formed body.

“The exams will be more secure and at par with international norms. There will be no issues of leakage and it would be more student friendly, open, scientific and a leak-proof system,” Javadekar told reporters. Also, the test won’t be held online as promised.
