BHAGALPUR: Salim Aurangzeb, who was beaten up by people and dragged by police from a motorcycle for allegedly snatching a chain, wants society to give him a second chance.

"I want my community to give me another chance. I won't do anything wrong," he said.

Aurangzeb, who was admitted to a district hospital, said he can't walk and his waist was hurting.

The woman whose chain snatching triggered the assault said Salim was not beaten in her presence.

"I had gone to the temple to offer prayers near Nathnagar. I was returning by a rickshaw. On the way, the person pulled my chain from behind. I got down from the rickshaw and raised an alarm. Immediately, two people chased the thief.

"They returned after sometime holding the thief by the collar. They asked me to identify the thief, which I did. He was still hiding the chain in his palm which I got back," she said.
