A day after a labour contractor was robbed of Rs2 lakh he had kept aside for distributing among his workers in Vastrapur, four bike-borne people, which included a woman, fled with Rs4.60 lakh they stole from a contractor in the middle of the road in Vastrapur area on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Manoj Dave, a resident of Raj Avenue in Thaltej, withdrew Rs4.60 lakh from a branch of Bank of India and was heading to his office to distribute the money among his employees at around 1:45 pm.
Dave, who works as a contractor providing hospitality services, was travelling in his friend’s auto-rickshaw when a man and woman on a bike asked him to slow down near Premnagar road in Vastrapur.
Vastrapur police inspector AK Sharma said, “The woman and the man asked Manoj the direction towards Paldi. As soon as Manoj and the auto driver started showing them the way, another bike from the other direction approached the rickshaw. The bikers left after a couple of minutes.”
Sharma further said that as the bikers left, Manoj realised that the bag containing the money which he had kept in the auto was missing. Manoj saw the bikers moving from another direction and disappearing. Cops said that this is a typical modus operandi of various gangs active in the city.
“We are investigating the case from various angles as they could be the same gangs who were involved in previous offences,” Sharma said.
