14-year-old rapper Lil Tay claims that her social media account was hacked and denies rumours related to her death. On 9th August,  a post was shared on her Instagram reporting that the rapper and her brother had passed away. However, Lil Tay has clarified to the media that she is indeed alive and the post was shared by a hacker on her Instagram.

Talking to TMZ, Lil Tay said, "I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say. It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess."

The rapper added, "My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong. My legal name is Tay Tian, not "Claire Hope"."

As the rumours simmered down, fans speculate if this incident is nothing but a publicity stunt since the rapper didn't clarify anything for 24 hrs after the event. Moreover, after the post, numerous individuals questioned its validity online since her father and former manager refused to confirm her demise and no records of her death were available from the many police agencies that media outlets contacted. Her former manager Henry Tsang had issued a statement to the Daily Beast saying, "Given the complexities of the current circumstances, I am at a point where I cannot definitively confirm or dismiss the legitimacy of the statement issued by the family."

The people have started to look at this with skepticism and deliberate whether her parents are to blame for this stunt. Fans have dropped comments like, "Pretending to be dead for publicity. No shame." and "Faking your death for attention at the age of 14 is wild. Stop giving these clout chasers attention."

Tay Tian or rather Lil Tay as known to the world is an American-born Canadian who moved to Los Angeles from Vancouver.  In 2018, when she was 9 years old, she briefly rose to fame online by claiming to be the "youngest flexer of the century" for three months. Her YouTube rap videos and social media activity on Instagram earned millions of viewers and followers. Her most recent post, which was published in June 2018, was a tribute to the Florida rapper XXXTentacion, who passed away after being shot close to a motorcycle store.
