We may deny it but the fact is human beings are fools of passion which is all well, but selling a kidney to go to the World Cup? Isn’t that taking things a bit too far?

“I’m no one to judge. If something is more important ones own body, it’s their choice,” says actor Sandhya Mridul, who quickly adds she’d never do something so drastic.

‘Having said that, I think I would love to one day up and sell everything I own to go live in Africa,” she muses.

“Nowadays, I don’t see myself going all out to get anything,” rues singer Shaan, “But I remember when the first Brian Adams concert happened, I was wondering how I’d pay for a ticket but somehow I managed the money,” he laughs.

You’ll be heartened to know that all who spoke to us are very sane. Excepting maybe  Preeti Vyas Giannetti who, when she lived in the US, was so passionate about  living in West Africa that she did anything to raise the money.

‘My husband was studying the music of Ewe tribe and I wondered why we were sitting in America. So I began selling all my clothes and jewellery. I used to waitress and work at a day care centre washing babies’ bottoms!” she says adding that the end result of living her dream for six months was worth it.

Photographer Subi Samuel has a totally different take on this issue. “With all due respect to the guy who sold his kidney, I wouldn’t do anything like that to follow my passion. Of course, if it is for someone you love, then you’ll walk that extra mile,” he says.

There are those who follow their favourite cricket teams with country flags or favourite football clubs around the world. But designers Rohit Bal and Haseena Jethmalani won’t.
While Haseena says with great finality that she’s never done anything extreme  to follow a passion, Rohit is a little more practical and perhaps tongue in cheek, “I have a TV. I can watch anything I want on it.”
