Ahead of Raj Kapoor’s iconic movie Awaara’s 60th anniversary, noted TV producer and writer Nasreen Munni Kabir is releasing a book on the film on December 12.

“Randhir has been most supportive in my effort to bring out this book on the film which in many ways was the first movie to taste such huge acclaim outside India. From China to Russia to the Middle East, Awaara became quite a rage. Randhir and Shashi Kapoor both had cameos in the movie and it will be great to have them at the launch,” Nasreen said.

Randhir has promised to bring together the entire Kapoor clan on that day, including Rishi’s son Ranbir and his own daughters Kareena and Karisma (who grew up with his estranged wife Babita).  “Randhir is very excited about the book. He’s trying to get as many people possible from the Kapoor family together on that date,” Nasreen says.

Nasreen’s book on Awaara, a family drama written by VP Sathe and Khwaja Ahmad Abbas (who also wrote the dialogue and the screenplay for the movie), is basically a book on the dialogues of the film. The entire dialogue of the movie is being made available in Hindi, Urdu, Roman and English. It also has an extended commentary on the film and is peppered with stills from the movie.

When contacted Randhir revealed, “We brothers are definitely going to be there. Rajiv is
as thrilled as I am. Shashi and Shammi both have health issues but it is always great to have them around. I’m rooting for the entire family to be present but I realise Ranbir is busy shooting, my brother Rishi is out of town and others also have a hectic schedule — but I’m trying. It is a proud moment for the entire Kapoor clan — we should be there.”
