Karthik Subbaraj's Jigarthanda DoubleX is a prequel to the 2014 Tamil blockbuster Jigarthanda, which was remade in Hindi last year as Bachchhan Paandey with Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon.
The teaser of the upcoming Tamil-language pan-India film Jigarthanda DoubleX was unveiled on Monday and it promises to solidify the legacy of the first part. The teaser, which is 2 minutes and 36 seconds in length, starts off with introducing the characters of a filmmaker and a gangster in silhouettes from its first part.
The teaser is laced with gun fights, chase sequences, action set pieces, toppling of vehicles and close quarter combats. In the clip, which has no dialogues, filmmaker SJ Suryah is seen making a 'Pandyaa Western' film with the gangster Raghava Lawrence.
While the Tamil teaser was released by Dhanush, Telugu teaser was unveiled by Mahesh Babu, Malayalam by Dulquer Salmaan, and Kannada by Rakshit Shetty.
Shooting of the film, which marks for the first time the collaboration of actors Raghava Lawrence and S J Suryah, has been successfully completed and post-production works are now going on in full swing as it is slated to land in theatres during Diwali.
Jigarthanda DoubleX is a prequel to the blockbuster Jigarthanda, which starred Siddharth as the filmmaker and Bobby Simha as the gangster and released nine years back. The 2014 film was remade in Kannada with the same title in 2016, in Telugu as Gaddalakonda Ganesh in 2019, and in Hindi as Bachchhan Paandey in 2022.
Talking about the upcoming film, director Karthik Subbaraj said, "The film is a creatively satisfying experience for all of us. We had shot Jigarthanda DoubleX in some of the most exotic locations. I am sure we are going to present a very exciting experience to the audience. I sincerely thank my actors, technicians and all others who supported this huge project."
