Hollywood is making its own version of the hit Bollywood comedy Bheja Fry, starring Vinay Pathak and Rajat Sharma, whose storyline was very similar to the very famous Hollywood film, The Dinner Game directed by Francis Veber. But what is most interesting is that the Hollywood studio is buying the rights of Veber’s movie. This is set to stir a whole new debate on whether Indian film-makers have gotten away by making Hollywood inspired scripts.

“While film-makers of Bheja Fry claimed that their film was just loosely inspired by the original film, Paramount has bought the rights of The Dinner Game for their film Dinner for Schmucks that is being directed by one of Hollywood’s funniest directors Jay Roach who has made movies like Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers,” says a highly placed source close to the developments of the movie.

Dinner for Schmucks is an original adaptation of The Dinner Game. This quirky comedy stars Paul Rudd of I Love You Man and the hit TV series Friend’s fame along with Steve Carell and Zach Galifianakis of Hangover fame. “The new film will be a treat for the Indian audiences as well since it’s closely similar to the idiosyncratic comedy Bheja Fry. Dinner for Schmucks takes the audience one step ahead with the most notable addition. The source adds, “The film has a simple set up: Find a schmuck, bring him to dinner. The guy with the biggest idiot wins. The film’s goal, established over the course of one disastrous evening, is to demonstrate that the idiot isn’t necessarily the guy you expected him to be.”
