A rags-to-riches story. From working as a Bollywood extra to working with the best directors in Hollywood. Why hasn’t an Anil Kapoor biopic been made yet? We posed the question to his daughter, the fresh-off-a-biopic Sonam Kapoor. She discussed the possibility and why she is both for and against it...

The perfect success story!
Anil Kapoor has battled nepotism in the industry and made his own mark. In an interview with After Hrs, he candidly spoke about his struggles in the initial phase of his career. Wouldn’t his life make for an interesting biopic? Sonam agrees, “Dad has had an incredible story. I think it would make for an interesting story because his struggle is for real. It’s a brilliant success story, for sure, but it’s just that.”

But…
Sonam feels it’s not the correct time to make a film on her father. “There’s so much more of his life left to be lived before something is made on him. Sometimes, I feel biopics should be made on people when they finish doing what they have to do. I feel for dad, there are more heights to conquer. Also, his life is very inspirational but at the same time, it isn’t controversial at all. I don’t think there have been too many controversies that have happened in his life.”

Sanjay’s an exception!
Her views on the Sanjay Dutt biopic? “You need to understand that he’s had a very turbulent life which makes for an interesting film. At the same time, he’s only 50. And he has more of his life to live. His life isn’t over, so no one can say what will happen next.”

Who plays Anil?
If the Anil Kapoor biopic does happen, who does she think can play her dad best? Sonam immediately replies, “Ranveer Singh! He’s got an energy similar to my dad’s. Or my brother Harsh can play him well on screen because they have very similar personalities. But that would take away from him because he should have his own individual identity. So, it has to be Ranveer.”

A biopic on Sonam?
What if, decades later, someone plans a biopic on her life? She says, “If I’m not around, yes. But I don’t look at myself as somebody inspirational enough for people to make a film about me.”
