Nearly a week after Tamil actor Chitra's death, her husband Hemnath has been arrested on the grounds of alleged abetment to suicide. The couple married each other a few months ago and her mother had accused Hemanth the reason behind Chitra's death. As per reports, Hemanth had expressed anger on seeing Chitra enacting a few scenes in her show. Talking about the same, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sudarshan told NDTV, "Hemnath did not like a scene she had enacted on TV. On the day she died, he had also pushed her."

VJ Chitra, best known for starring in the Tamil show Pandian Stores, was found dead at a hotel room in Chennai's Nazrathpet on December 9, 2020. She was 29 and is suspected to have died by suicide.

According to the police, she had checked into her room around 1 am on Wednesday after completing a shoot. "The hotel manager called the police helpline number 100 about 3.30 a.m on Wednesday. We are currently investigating the cause of her death," a police official from Nazrathpet station told TNM.

Just a few hours before her death, Chitra had shared pictures of herself from a photoshoot on her Instagram page.

Chitra's mother Vijaya had hinted at domestic violence in the hands of Hemanth. She stated to TNM, "She was beaten to death… She spoke to me on Tuesday saying she was on a show and that it would be late. The morning her father-in-law called sharing the news. How could it be?"
