For many people cracking UPSC even for one time is a tumultuous task but there is one person who cracked it twice and became IPS and then an IAS officer.

We are talking about IAS Yogesh Ashokrao Patil whose story is the epitome of the power of perseverance, determination, and hard work.

Belonging to Pune, Maharashtra, Yogesh was always an exceptional student as he scored 96.7 per cent in 10th, 94.8 per cent in 12th.  His father is a Primary teacher and his mother is a homemaker.

Thereafter, he completed his B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) from Pune University in 2017 and immediately after graduating, he started preparing for the Civil Services Examination 2018.

Talking about his career choice Yogesh said, “Career in Civil Services was my ultimate goal; so, I didn’t think of anything else. There are many motivating factors other than the economic opportunities it offers. My dream of becoming a Civil Servant started with meeting Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi (IAS, Maharashtra Cadre) and the change he brought to the lives of people in my district. Its impact was such that despite not knowing what IAS is, I started dreaming about becoming an IAS officer.”

In 2018, he cracked UPSC in his first attempt and got Rank 231 which helped him get the post in Indian Police Service. But Yogesh dreams were fixated on the coveted IAS officer title. In 2019, Yogesh received the prestigious All India Rank 63 in the UPSC examination and finally became an IAS officer.

Talking about his accomplishments, Yogesh highlights that success in UPSC isn’t reserved for English-medium-educated individuals with fluent English language skills, he himself was educated in a Marathi medium school during his early years.

Yogesh advised aspirants by saying, “First, set GOAL and lay down your priorities. If your Goal is Civil Services; be 100% sure about it. Self-assessment is your prime objective and being aware of your capabilities will help you in plan your endeavors.”

Currently, he is appointed as Officer-on-Special Duty (OSD) in Home and Hill Affairs Department, West Bengal Government.
