Inability and failure of Delhi government in providing safety gear to sanitation workers employed for cleaning sewer lines across Delhi has cost yet another innocent life on Monday in Timarpur. Union Minister and former Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel termed the incident as highly unfortunate and utter failure on the part of Kejriwal government in ensuring the protection of workers involved in cleaning up sewer lines.

According to sources, Delhi government's Irrigation and Flood Control Department had engaged a private contractor for cleaning of the drain. However, it failed to provide safety gear and equipment which could have saved the worker's life. A call was received at Wazirabad Police Station around 3 pm that a man named Kishan Lal, 37, of Shriram Basti who had gone to clean the drain has got stuck in it and currently a team from Fire, Disaster Management and NDRF is trying to locate him.

Union Minister Vijay Goel has demanded a detailed inquiry into the matter and said that it is a failure and negligence on the part of Delhi government, which has completely failed in its duty to ensure safety of its sanitation workers. This action is also a reflection of an anti-Dalit mindset of the Kejriwal government, he said in a press statement.
