Anjali Gupta (9) was found hanging at her home on Tuesday at 7 pm in her room, which was locked from inside while her parents were away, in South Delhi's Sarojini Nagar.

While the police investigated the scene of the crime, no evidence of murder was found but the family members of the deceased suspect murder. The deceased was a bright child and had often represented her school through football.

Her father Ratnesh Gupta, an auto driver, saw her last at 5.30 pm and he claimed that she seemed as normal as any other day.

Anjali was a student of Class 6 and studied at a government school. On Tuesday, she came home after playing outside her house with the kids in her locality at around 6 pm. While her mother was at a neighbour's house, her younger sibling, aged 6, returned home only to find Anjali hanging from a nylon rope around her neck that was supported from two screws hinged on the wall and a towel.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Romil Baaniya said,"Ligature marks were present on her neck. On spot enquiry, it was found that the door was closed from inside. The crime scene was inspected and no foul play is suspected as of now."

Initial investigation around the room revealed that the door's latch could be locked from inside as well as outside since there is a window nearby.

The girl's uncle, Jairam Prakash, however, raised suspicion and said that there was no way she could have died even if she hung herself since the distance between the rope and the bed was shorter than her height.
