A 60-year-old woman was killed in a celebratory firing at a wedding function in the Badalpur area of Greater Noida on Wednesday morning. Among several bullets fired while dancing to the DJ's tunes, one of the bullets hit woman's chest, which killed her.

The police said that the man who shot the bullet was the woman's nephew, Saddam (28), who has been absconding since the incident. The deceased has been identified as Iqrar Begum. The incident took place at around 9: 30 am in Shadipur Chirroli village.

"On Wednesday morning, the villagers had assembled for the wedding ceremonies of Feroz. After a few ceremonies at his residence, people hopped on to mares for the baarat to go to the banquet hall," said Mukesh Kumar, station house officer, Badalpur Police station.

The police said the accused was dancing, while Begum was watching the celebration. While dancing Saddam fired a lot of bullets in the air.

" While he was dancing, Saddam took a country-made pistol for celebratory firing. However, one of the bullets hit his aunt Begum on her chest. Initially, people thought that she had fainted but when they saw blood they understood that the bullet had injured her. Saddam fled the spot," said Kumar.

Locals immediately informed the police and she was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

"A PCR call was made by the deceased's husband Yamin. Following the death of his wife, the husband has submitted a complaint against Saddam. We have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code against Saddam. We have formed teams to nab him," Kumar said.
