Delhi: Two criminals who extorted money to fund associates in jail, arrested

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Sandeep Gahlot (25) and Rajat Parashar (24).

The South West district of Delhi Police has arrested two members of Ashok Pradhan gang from Vasant Kunj area on Monday, who allegedly committed crime to fund their associate gang members lodged in jail.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Sandeep Gahlot (25) and Rajat Parashar (24). They were allegedly collecting extortion money from people operating illegal gambling in different parts of Delhi for members of the Ashok Pradhan gang lodged in jail.

One of the accused Sandeep Gahlot was also involved in supplying drugs and mobile phones at Bhondsi Jail in Haryana.

"Information was received that two members of the Ashok Pradhan gang would arrive at Shiv Murti, Vasant Kunj, to commit a robbery," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Devender Arya stated.

"A trap was laid to nab the criminals. A little later, two persons on a motorcycle without a number plate were asked to stop but they tried to speed off. However, they were successfully nabbed," said the DCP.

During the interrogation, the accused confessed that on the instructions of Ashok Pradhan and Rohit Lamba, they were providing support for their associates lodged in jail.

"On December 31, 2018, Sandeep along with one of his associates Rajat tried to sneak in drugs, two mobile phones and a bluetooth device by hiding the items in the soles of three identical pairs of black sandals which were to be given to the prisoners but the items were discovered when the wardens were checking the objects received from relatives.
