Alarmed by a fake Twitter account in his daughter Sara’s name, former India cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Sachin Tendulkar appealed the social media platform to remove all accounts in her and his son Arjun’s name.
A storm brewed after the account in Sara’s name tweeted abuses to Nationalist Congress President Sharad Pawar and NCP legislator Jitendra Awhad threatened to agitate against the cricketer seeking explanation. Tweets against Pawar were even more startling since Tendulkar and Pawar, who was the International Cricket Council president, enjoy cordial relations.
Sources said that the NCP leadership spoke to Awhad and asked him to delete his tweets. Simultaneously the star got to know of the objectionable tweets, and rushed to Twitter to clear air on the issue.
Tendulkar insisted on Twitter his children Arjun and Sara were not on the platform. “Impersonation wreaks havoc, creates misunderstanding and traumatizes us,” he added. He appealed to take corrective measures immediately.
Quick to react, Twitter India removed the fake account as per Tendulkar’s request.
