As much as the Royal Challengers Bangalore fans are eager to see the swashbuckling Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, the 32-year old can't hold his excitement of playing alongside the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Maxwell, who had expressed his desire to play for the Kohli-led franchise before the auction, was indeed picked up by the RCB at a whopping price of INR 14.25 crores.

Maxwell was released by the Punjab Kings before the auction of the new season of the Indian Premier League after a below-par season where he just scored 108 runs and didn't hit a single six.

Now talking about the same after the auction and that the dust has settled down, Maxwell was excited for what the future holds for him as far as the 2021 IPL season is concerned. Speaking to Australian Associated Press (AAP), Maxwell was asked about the RCB stint, he said, "It's going to be next level.

"He's (Kohli) been the pinnacle of the game for a while as a multi-format player from Tests all the way to T20s. He's been able to adapt his game, dominate for a long period of time and deal with the Indian pressure of being their captain and their best player," Maxwell added.

Maxwell, who considers Virat Kohli a good friend said that he hoped to pick some leadership skills from the charismatic batsman and leader, who also supported him during his mental health break from the game.

"I'm looking forward to watching him go about his work, not just in games but in training, and hopefully tapping into some of the leadership stuff and try and learn off him."

"He's been a solid backer of my stance. In a way, he probably understood a lot of the things that I was going through ... a lot of expectation and pressure, which I'm sure he can relate to," the all-rounder added, who is currently with the Australian T20 side in New Zealand.

Virat Kohli, who recently opened about his struggles with depression during the 2014 England tour, had lauded Maxwell for admitting and taking a break to give his mental health importance.

The 14th edition of the lucrative league, which is most likely to start from the second week of April will take place in India after being shifted to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last year after its postponement and delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
