Smriti Mandhana on Wednesday slammed the fastest fifty by an Indian player in women’s T20I cricket. Opening the innings against New Zealand in the first match of the ongoing women’s T20 tri-series, Smriti went on the attack from the word go and reached her half-century in 24 balls to better her own 25-ball 50 record she had set last year in March against England.

The overall record for the fastest fifty in women’s T20Is belongs to Sophie Devine of New Zealand who hit a half-century in 18 balls against India during a T20 International back in 2015. However, Mandhana holds the record jointly with Devine when it comes to T20 cricket.

Smriti Mandhana had equalled Devine's the record for the fastest half-century in women's T20 cricket during a Kia Super League encounter between Western Storm and Loughborough Lightning last year.
