Despite winning the Asia Cup, India entered the three-match series against Australia ranked below Pakistan.
After securing a remarkable 5-wicket victory against Australia last Friday, India has ascended to the coveted number one spot in all three formats of the game: Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
India has dethroned Pakistan from the summit of the ODI rankings, while simultaneously dominating the T20I rankings, where they currently outshine England. In the realm of Test cricket, India reigns supreme, with Australia hot on their heels in second place.
Despite winning the Asia Cup, India entered the three-match series against Australia ranked below Pakistan. However, their triumph in the first game propelled them to 116 points, surpassing their arch-rivals by a single point.
India has now become only the second team in history, as recognized by the ICC, to hold the top position in all three formats simultaneously. The first team to achieve this feat was South Africa, who claimed the Test mace from England in August 2012, securing the No.1 ranking in all three formats.

On Friday, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad showcased their exceptional batting skills, each scoring impressive half-centuries, leading India to a remarkable five-wicket victory over Australia in the first One Day International (ODI) of the thrilling three-match series.
In pursuit of a challenging target of 277 runs, Gill displayed his prowess by smashing a brilliant 74 off just 63 balls, while Gaikwad showcased his finesse with a composed 71 off 77 deliveries. Their outstanding partnership enabled India to surpass the target with eight balls to spare, reaching a commendable total of 281 for five.
Notably, skipper KL Rahul also played a pivotal role in the victory, remaining unbeaten with a well-deserved 58 runs, while Suryakumar Yadav contributed a valuable half-century of his own, adding to India's triumph.
In the first innings, Australia, after being put into bat, managed to score 276 runs before being bowled out in the allotted 50 overs. David Warner displayed his batting prowess with a solid knock of 52 runs, while Steve Smith contributed a respectable 41 runs. Additionally, wicketkeeper Josh Inglis made a valuable contribution of 45 runs lower down the batting order.
However, it was Indian pacer Mohammed Shami who stole the show with his exceptional bowling performance. Shami proved to be the standout bowler for India, claiming an impressive five-wicket haul by dismissing Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Short, and Sean Abbott
