Pakistan's captain, Babar Azam, is on the cusp of surpassing Indian star batter Virat Kohli's record for the fastest to reach 2000 runs as a captain. This remarkable achievement could occur during the highly anticipated Pakistan vs India clash in Kandy on Saturday.

Currently, Babar has accumulated 1994 runs from 30 innings, while Kohli took 36 innings to surpass the 2000-run milestone. Babar's exceptional performance has already earned him another record. During the inaugural Asia Cup match on Wednesday, he scored his 19th One Day International (ODI) century, making him the fastest player to achieve this feat. He surpassed South Africa's Hasim Amla, who achieved 19 centuries in 104 innings, while Babar accomplished it in just 102 innings. Kohli, on the other hand, took 124 innings to reach the same milestone.

Babar's outstanding performance was evident in Pakistan's recent match against Nepal, where his remarkable score of 151 led his team to a resounding victory with a massive margin of 238 runs.

“This game was good preparation for the India game because it gave us confidence. We want to give 100 per cent every match, hope to do that there as well,” Babar said after the end of the match.

Meanwhile, Iftikhar Ahmed also made a remarkable contribution by scoring his maiden ODI ton, remaining unbeaten at 109 runs. This outstanding performance propelled Pakistan to a commanding total of 342 for six, after choosing to bat first.

Babar's innings was not without support, as he formed two crucial partnerships that proved instrumental in Pakistan's success. Initially, he collaborated with Mohammad Rizwan, who scored a steady 44 runs off 50 balls, resulting in an 86-run partnership. Later, Babar joined forces with Iftikhar, and together they unleashed a whirlwind of runs, accumulating an impressive 214-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

In response, Nepal struggled to find their footing and were eventually dismissed for a mere 104 runs in just 23.4 overs. Shadab Khan showcased his bowling prowess by claiming four wickets, while Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf contributed with two wickets each, further dismantling Nepal's batting lineup.
