The Asia Cup 2023 clash between India and Pakistan in Pallekele saw India's captain, Rohit Sharma, win the toss and elect to bat. Sharma, along with Shubman Gill, faced the initial challenge posed by Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah. At the time, the score stood at 15/0 in 4.2 overs when rain interrupted play, forcing the players off the field and resulting in a break.

In terms of team selection, India opted to exclude Mohammad Shami, instead fielding Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah in the seam department. Hardik Pandya would serve as the fourth seamer, while Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja would handle the spin department. Notably, Virat Kohli would take up the number four batting position.

On the other hand, Pakistan decided to maintain their winning combination without any alterations. The focus for India would be on their experienced players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who would aim to make a significant impact given the significance of the occasion. Sharma, in particular, has been a formidable force for India in the 50-over format, especially against Pakistan. In the last five ODIs, he has achieved three scores of 90 or more against Pakistan, two of which resulted in centuries. Kohli, on the other hand, would hope for another memorable performance against their neighboring rivals.

Pallekele weather forecast:
