Shivam Dube holds the belief that MS Dhoni, the legendary cricketer, is the ultimate authority when it comes to deciding whether he should be given the opportunity to bowl in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dube, who showcased his exceptional batting skills as a key player for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2023, impressively scored 418 runs in 14 innings, boasting an impressive strike rate of 158.33. Despite being an all-rounder, Dube was solely utilized as a specialist batsman and was not given the chance to showcase his bowling prowess throughout the tournament.
During an engaging conversation on the AakashVani show on JioCinema, Shivam Dube was questioned about the Impact Player rule and whether it prevented him from bowling in the IPL. Furthermore, he was asked if he had ever approached Dhoni to request the opportunity to bowl. In response to these queries, Dube expressed:
"If I talk about the CSK team, the sixth option itself was Moeen Ali. I come as the seventh option, so it's only if it's very much required. That is one thing because of the Impact Player rule. I am trying to make myself better so that I can contribute one or two overs for the team."
"If I tell him (Dhoni), I feel it will be a huge insult to him. He knows when to bowl me. He just asks you to keep playing and not to take tension. When I started bowling, he said that my bowling had improved from last year," he added.
Dube revealed that Dhoni informed him about his inability to bowl, citing the current situation and the team's requirements. Furthermore, he emphasized that the CSK skipper consistently assures him that his performance will steadily improve over time.
Dube featured in both T20Is during India's recent tour of Ireland. He has also been selected as a member of the Indian contingent for the upcoming Asian Games. With high aspirations, he aims to deliver exceptional performances that will solidify his position in the Men in Blue squad for the T20 World Cup next year.
