As the much-anticipated 2023 edition of the Asia Cup gears up to unfold in the ODI format, all eyes are on the star Indian batsman, Virat Kohli. Renowned for his prowess with the bat, Kohli has consistently shone on the Asia Cup stage, amassing a remarkable 613 runs in just 11 ODIs at an impressive average of 61.30. In the process, he stands on the verge cricket history by breaking an illustrious record set by Australian legend Ricky Ponting.

Kohli's spectacular journey in the competition is anticipated to take him beyond Ponting's milestone, adding yet another feather to his illustrious cap. Often hailed as one of the finest modern-day white-ball batters, Kohli boasts an impressive tally of 46 centuries in ODIs, placing him second only to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who stands at 49 centuries. Over the course of his career spanning more than a decade, Kohli has notched an astounding 111 ODI fifty-plus scores, and he is poised to eclipse Ponting's record of 112 such scores in the ODI format.

In an exclusive club consisting of just five cricketing legends with over 100 fifty-plus scores in ODIs, Kohli stands tall among them. Among this elite group, he finds himself trailing only Tendulkar (145), Kumar Sangakkara (118), and the lengendary batsmen Ponting (112), while leading the way ahead of Jacques Kallis (103). Notably, Kohli's achievement is even more remarkable considering he has accomplished this feat in fewer innings compared to his counterparts. While Tendulkar took 452 innings, Sangakkara took 380, Ponting took 365, and Kallis took 314, Kohli has achieved this feat in just 265 innings.

When it comes to ODI fifty-plus scores, Kohli is not just leading the pack in India, but he has also established a significant gap between himself and his fellow Indian teammates. The captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, is the closest to him with 78 such scores, while Shikhar Dhawan follows with 56.

Kohli's exceptional batting prowess extends beyond ODIs as he cements his status as a "Run Machine" across formats. He proudly stands among the select few batters who have amassed over 200 fifty-plus scores in international cricket. With a staggering 207 such scores in 559 innings, Kohli ranks behind only Tendulkar (264 in 782 innings), Ponting (217 in 668 innings), Sangakkara (216 in 666 innings), and Kallis (211 in 617 innings).

Furthermore, the upcoming Asia Cup could witness Kohli race towards another monumental milestone. He is on the brink of becoming the fifth player to achieve 13,000 ODI runs, joining the elite company of Tendulkar (18,426), Sangakkara (13,975), Ponting (13,589), and Sanath Jayasuriya (13,364). With his current tally standing at 12,898 runs in 265 innings, at an impressive average of 57.32, Kohli is a mere 102 runs away from surpassing the record set by Tendulkar and potentially becoming the fastest batter to reach this illustrious feat. The Asia Cup's commencement on August 30, all eyes are on Kohli's bat, poised to etch his name in the record books once again.
