General Motors is recalling 232,931 Buick models made at its flagship China car venture on Monday to fix faulty fuel lines, the Xinhua news agency said.

The recall covered 133,074 2-litre and 2.4-litre Regal sedans produced from September 18, 2008 to October 14, 2010, and 99,857 2.4-litre LaCrosse cars made from April 20, 2009, to October 14, 2010, Xinhua said, citing a company statement.

The defect could cause the fuel pipe to break at the joints under extreme conditions and the engine could fail to start or stop working. The oil leaks could also spark fires, it said.

GM would also recall 2,806 imported Cadillac CTS vehicles in China from March 21 to repair faulty track bars, it said, citing an earlier statement by China's top quality regulator.
