Since July, Bollywood has seen back-to-back successes. With films such as Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Gadar 2, OMG 2, and Jawan the Hindi film industry has bounced from a dull phase. However, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta said that these celebrations are short-lived, and theatres will be empty again.

In a recent interview with ETimes, Sanjay reacted to the success of Gadar 2 and Jawan and said that these films worked because they were big-budget entertainers and were highly anticipated. "Gadar 2 and Jawan are big-budget films and they have taken 2-3 years to be made. Theatres will be empty again after a couple of weeks, waiting for the next big film to arrive." He further suggested that to continue the momentum at the box office,  the A-listers should at least have one movie release in a year. Sanjay shared that the audience is still not ready to go back into cinemas. And added that when a "combination film" like Baap (Mithun Chakraborty, Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff-starrer) is accepted at the box office then he would believe that the audiences are back.

Sanjay further added that with the emergence of OTT, audiences are more comfortable to watch content at the ease of their home, rather than rushing to cinema halls. The Kaante director added that films that have no star power, franchise value, or nostalgia won't work at the box office. In the coversation, Sanjay stated that the fate of the film industry is still worrisome, but the exhibitors are relieved by the recent hits. He concluded, "They know yeh chaar din ki chandni hai."

Sanjay Gupta's next film

After making successful gangster dramas such as Kaante, Shootout at Lokhandwala, and Shootout at Wadala, the filmmaker will bring his next film, Visfot. The action thriller stars Riteish Deshmukh, and it will also mark the comeback of Fardeen Khan after 13 years.

About Jawan

Jawan, directed by Atlee, is going strong at the box office. The action thriller has grossed nearly Rs 700 crore worldwide and Rs 400 crore in India alone, making it the second-highest-grossing Indian film of the year, behind only Pathaan.
