Priyanka Chopra hosted a social live-athon, where Janhvi Kapoor was on the panel
On Tuesday, actress Priyanka Chopra hosted a social live-athon, where she discussed the good and bad about social, and how it can be used better in today's world.
The talented actress was joined by Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, Diljit Dosanjh, Ayushmann Khurrana and Ritubhari Chakraborthy, singer Armaan Malik comedians Mallika Dua and Bhuvan Bam, activist Gurmehar Kaur and others on the panel.
One of the topics that was discussed during the event was the trolling epidemic.
Priyanka mentioned the epidemic on social media called trolling and said that she blocks those who post rude comments.
The Sky Is Pink actress also talked about how cyber bullying is a social problem, more than a technological one.
“I posted a picture with my dog Diana and I got comments like you are going nowhere just like that dog. You are not even Indian anymore. I was told I look like overcooked tomato on my selfie,” she said. She said that she too is affected by the hateful comments. “Hateful comments can affect even the strongest people. They affect me too. These trolls have the nastiest things to say, but they won’t say it on face.”
While talking about the same, Janhvi shared how her half-sister Anshula Kapoor received rape threats over a 'silly' thing they did on Koffee With Karan 6.
In the last episode of Karan Johar's celebrity talk show, where Janhvi and her brother Arjun Kapoor were invited as guests, the Dhadak actress called up Anshula, asking her for help to win the hamper on the show.
However, due to some confusion, Anshula couldn't help Janhvi and so the Namaste London actor won.
While speaking about the same at the conference, Janhvi said, “You want to protect the people in your life. Like for example my sister actually just recently got trolled on social media. She did something silly on Koffee with Karan and started getting like rape threats and stuff. And it was just weird to me.”
“As people are faceless on social media, they feel they can have opinions that sometimes cross a moral line. So when I put stuff that’s personal up on social media, I do think of that too. I feel protective towards them... what people might say about them or about my equation with them. You tend to be guarded,” she added.
While Anshula hasn't yet reacted to the controversy, Janhvi shared a picture of herself and her sister the day after the show aired, and captioned it, "#tbt to the first but clearly not the last roller coaster we’ll be on together. I love you"
Janhvi had also answered a fan who had asked why didn't say those words and had written, “she couldn't hear me and asked me after the show got over that that phone call was about....”
On which the actress replied replied saying that Anshula could not hear what she was saying over the phone.
Angry about how his sister was being trolled on social media, Arjun Kapoor took to Twitter and wrote, “Something I assumed was an absolute non issue on Koffee with Karan has escalated into @anshulakapoor being abused & I can’t be bothered by protocol anymore. F**k all those trolls who wish harm to my sister. I hope ur mom or sister never have to go thru what u have put us thru.”
Well, social media does have its wonders and perils.
