Mastering the art of travelling by local transport in peak hours is quite a feat. Varun Dhawan realised just how hard it can be, while shooting for his forthcoming film Sui Dhaaga: Made In India. The actor, who plays a tailor from a village set in the heartland of the country, says, “Buses in small towns are often overcrowded and it is quite a fight to catch one. There is a scene in which I have to get into the bus to be with my wife Mamta (played by Anushka Sharma).

Director Sharat Katariya wanted the scene to be as real as possible. He instructed the other actors to make it difficult for me to get in. He wanted to accurately capture the hardships that a man has to go through to pull through a day.”

The scene required Varun to try and enter a bus that had started moving. “I had to give it my all to get in. The actors involved got in the scene, too, because it became very physical. We were pushing aggressively and trying to make room. I fell down a couple of times on the road,” he recalls.

However, that was not the end of his ordeal. The actor, who is paired opposite Anushka for the first time in the film, had to chase the bus for her. “I think I gave the shot about 10 times. At first, the team was going easy on me and driving the vehicle slowly, but I told them that the scene needs me to be helpless. I told them to drive the bus faster, so that I could chase it. After these 10 takes, I was finished. I remember, I threw up on the road after the final take was wrapped up, but the pain was worth it. It’s a moment that really brings out Mauji and Mamta’s beautiful romance,” he concludes
