The manager of a private firm received an extortion call, purportedly from gangster Ravi Poojari, demanding Rs5 crore.
Police registered a case on Sunday based on a complaint by Kiran Henry Pinto, 35, who received the call around 4.30pm the previous day.

Pinto, manager of JP Lights on Hospital Road in Chickpet, told the police that the caller had introduced himself as Poojari, and threatened of dire consequences if he did not heed to the demand. The man spoke in Hindi.

Pinto had been running a transport business in Dubai for 14 years before he returned a year ago. The extortionist demanded the amount saying Pinto had made Rs50 crore in the emirate.
Police claimed that the call originated from the UK. They were suspecting a family feud, and that one of Pinto’s family members might have made the threat call.

Pinto’s transport business was a joint venture with his brother Hillary.

The latest extortion case comes a month after alleged Poojari associates fired at a real estate dealer’s office on Vittal Mallya Road.
