A constable was severely injured at Kubernagar police chowky on Sunday following a misfire from a service revolver belonging to a sub-inspector. A non-cognisable complaint has been registered at Sardarnagar police station terming the incident as an accident. However, insiders from the police station narrate a completely different story of what exactly happened.

According to the NC, victim Ramesh Mangal was injured in the chest after a bullet misfired from PSI VD Mori’s service revolver while he was trying to take it out of the holster kept on the table. Other police officials too were present at the time of the incident, the complaint stated.

The source, on conditions of anonymity, shared the real picture and called the so-far investigation a sham.

“It was not an accident but the result of a brawl between Mangal and Mori over not revealing names of two bootleggers, who were arrested during multiple raids, to the media. Huge money was charged from the bootleggers. However, later a fight broke out between the two over division of the amount,” said the source.
On Sunday, multiple raids were carried out in Sardarnagar area leading to arrests of several bootleggers.

“Around 40 people were brought to the chowky after the raid but almost half of them were let off after taking bribes. When distribution of the money started, a heated argument started between Mori and Mangal, already drunk by them. The former lost his cool leading to the mayhem,” said the source. Mangal was rushed to Anand Surgical Hospital in Saijpur Bogha area instead of a government hospital.

Luckily for him, the bullet had first hit the mobile phone in his pocket as a result of which, the impact and damage had reduced significantly. He was later shifted to Apollo hospital where he is under observation.

Despite several attempts, Sardarnagar police inspector KK Patel was not available for any comment. But deputy commissioner of police (Zone 4) AM Muniya told dna that the possibility of a brawl between the cops has not been ruled out and the investigation is still on.

Needle of suspicion
Instead of a government hospital, the victim was taken to a private clinic
Despite doubt that cops were drunk, no blood test was conducted.

Big fish arrested in the raids were let off, while the smaller ones are behind bars
20 out of 40 people brought to the police chowky managed to get away.
