Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will skip the September 1 rally in south Gujarat, much to the disappointment of party cadres. Instead of addressing tribal voters in Valsad, the Congress scion has left for the Norwegian capital Oslo to meet political and business leaders.

Gandhi was to kick off Congress’s campaign for the upcoming state Assembly elections at the Valsad rally.

The Congress scion will also miss ally RJD’s show of strength rally in Patna on Sunday.

“On the invitation of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be travelling to Oslo for a few days. Looking forward to meeting and exchanging ideas with political and business leaders and research institutions,” Gandhi tweeted on Friday.

Manish Doshi, GPCC spokesperson, said, “The rally is an annual event ‘Khed Satyagraha’ organised by local tribals with Congress supports. Gandhi never confirmed his attendance for it.”
