A complaint of cheating was lodged with Navrangpura police station on Tuesday after four men were duped of Rs 74 lakh.
One of the victims was Vikash Singh (39), an electronic wholesaler from Sabarmati. In February, he came into contact with the accused, Sanjay Gupta, owner of Diamond International Trading Company through his friend Bhupendra Rao. Gupta told Singh that he planned to open 15 branches of his company in the city and placed an order worth Rs 20 lakh with Singh for various products, and paid the entire amount. On April 29, Gupta placed another order worth Rs 10 lakh and told Singh to collect the payment on May 7.
On May 7, when Singh reached Gupta's office on Ashram road, he found it locked with no trace of Gupta. Three others were waiting there, from whom Gupta had taken products worth Rs 64 lakh. Cops are investigating the matter.
