More than 40 Congress leaders and workers, including eight MLAs, were detained for protesting outside the Central Bureau of Investigation office in Gandhinagar on Friday.

The party workers took out a km-long march in protest of the government's decision to divest CBI director Alok Verma of his charge. Shailesh Parmar, CJ Chavda, Himmatsinh Patel and Imran Khedawala were among the MLAs taken into custody, before being released.

"We detained 47 Congress workers and leaders, including Bharatsinh Solanki and eight MLAs. They were released after some time," Gandhinagar SP, Mayur Chavda, said.

During the march, which was a part of the party's nationwide stir, Congress workers raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of interfering in affairs of CBI.
