Bad news for those eyeing admission to top engineering colleges in the state: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has not yet approved some top institutions.

On June 30, AICTE put up the list of approved colleges on its website, but top institutions — RV College of Engineering, PES Institute of Technology, Malnad College of Engineering, Sri Channabasaveshwara College of Engineering, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Gokte Institute of Technology and University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering — have not received approval for most of the courses. Similarly, 20 other colleges, including five government colleges, are missing from the list.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is planning to re-start counselling from July 7. KEA sources said the department of technical education has already prepared the seat matrix as per the list announced by the AICTE and it will announce the schedule once it receives the seat matrix from the government.
If KEA restarts counselling on July 7, top colleges that have not received the seat matrix will not be included in the first round of counselling.

“We will add those colleges in the casual round. The students will not be affected; those who want to seats in these colleges can reappear for the casual round,” said a KEA official.

But the top colleges who are in trouble are against the KEA’s plan. According to them, it will be difficult for candidates and parents to attend counselling during the casual round. “If we don’t get the matrix by July 5, then the KEA has to postpone the process by a day or two. We are in touch with AICTE officials and they have said some mistakes have been made. They promised that that the problems will be rectified within two days,” said Balasubramanya Murthy, PES Institute of Technology principal.

“We have not received approval for some branches. We have submitted our appeal to the regional office and are expecting correction at least by July 5,” said BS Satyanarayana, RV College of Engineering principal.
