The overall pass percentage in the SSLC examinations held in April has risen to 76.13 from 73.90 in 2011, setting a new record in the Karnataka Secondary Education Evaluation Board (KSEEB)’s history.

Of the 8,25,131 candidates who appeared for the examination, 6,25,205 managed to pass, the primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri announced on Thursday.
Udupi district stood first with a pass percentage 89.53 followed by Sirsi with 88.31 and Hassan with 85.92. In 2011, Udupi and Sirsi were in sixth and fourth places respectively. Bidar finished last with 63.32 per cent.

Navya RS of Sri Venkateswara Swamy English Medium School, Bantwal (Dakshina Kannada district) came first on the state list by securing 623 out of 625 marks, followed by Anusha Prasad of Chetana Public School, Hubli; Pallavi Rao K of Vidyadayini English Medium High School, Surathkal (Dakshina Kannada) and Shreesha DR of SVEI High School, Mysore, who had a score of 621 each. Suhas S of Poornaprajna Education Centre, Bangalore; and Namratha NS of Sandipani English medium School, Shimoga, scored 620 each.

Kageri told reporters, “I am happy to announce this result as it is a record in the board’s history. I must congratulate all students and teachers. This year most schools conducted remedial teaching lessons and enhanced students’ confidence levels by conducting unit tests.

The minister advised those students who could not secure expected results to take it positively. “Whatever the result is, students must take it positively. Parents should not compare their children with others and instead console and convince them,” he said.

The results will be available on the board’s website and through SMS. Schools will display the results on their notice boards after 10.30 am on Friday.

The examinations were held from April 2 to April 16. The evaluation was conducted in 208 centres; 46,575 evaluators participated in the process.
