Instant messaging platform Telegram has come out with a new feature that gives its users the ability to import their chats and media from WhatsApp.
Due to the privacy concerns related to the new updates brought out by WhatsApp, many of its devoted users are moving to other instant messaging platforms. Telegram is one such platform that is increasingly being installed in India by many to make use of its privacy features.
Since many have used WhatsApp for years, there is fear that they will lose all their messages when they make a switch from WhatsApp to Telegram. They need not have to worry about it anymore as Telegram has come out with a new feature. The new feature gives the users of Telegram the ability to import their chats from WhatsApp.
It should be noted though that this feature to import WhatsApp chats is only available in Telegram 7.4 Update as it is this version that allows the migration to take place.
Here are the steps to be followed for migrating WhatsApp chats to Telegram for Android users:
- First, open a chat on WhatsApp that you want to transfer. Tap on the three vertical dots on the top right corner.
- Then, select the 'Export chat' option and choose Telegram as the destination in the share menu.
- Choose the option of restoring with or without media as per your need.
- This would export that particular chat to Telegram. Only this option is available right now to move chats individually.
Steps to migrate WhatsApp chats to Telegram for iOS users:
- First, open the chat on WhatsApp that you want to migrate to Telegram.
- Then, tap the area beside the profile picture on the top.
- Select the option to 'Export chat' and then select Telegram in the share menu.
It can be done quickly as well. Just go to the main chat screen of WhatsApp, swipe left on the chat you want to transfer and choose the 'Export chat' option.
What is great is that the messages and media imported to Telegram from WhatsApp will not take extra space on the phone.
