Having failed to find a berth in the Maharashtra’s Ranji Trophy squad for the past two years, wicketkeeper-batsman Yogesh Takawale has decided to shift his loyalties to Tripura.

Takawale, who played seven games for Mumbai Indians in the first edition of Indian Premier League, said he was frustrated at being ignored despite good performances in the selection matches.

“I was frustrated at not getting an opportunity to play first class cricket in the last two years despite performing well in the selection matches. Hence, I have decided to play for Tripura from this season. I have taken my NoC from MCA,” Takawale said from Agartala, where he is preparing for the 2010-11 Ranji Trophy season.

The youngster claimed that the selection policy of the Maharashtra Cricket Association is flawed and that’s why he is leaving the state.

“Selectors don’t pick you even when you are in form. They pick their favourite players. Otherwise, why would Hrishikesh Kanitkar or Dheeraj Jadhav, who was in the India squad against Australia in 2004-05, leave Maharashtra and play for some other state?” he questioned.

“I have played for Maharashtra from the age group level and it hurts when you have to leave. But I have no other option. I was in the probables list and have done well in the selection matches. I was hopeful that I will be picked,” he said.

About his stint with Tripura, he said, “The conditions here are
different from that in Maharashtra, but it will be a learning experience.”

Takawale, who played in the first season of the IPL, said his priority is now first class cricket.

“That is what I am aiming for. I have not played first class cricket for two years, hence, I want to go there and perform for Tripura. As far as IPL is concerned, I will wait for the opportunity as it comes,” he said.
