India’s newest sporting hero, Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra has been sharing several experiences and incidents of his life in interviews. The javelin throw champion was recently on the Kaun Banega Crorepati TV shot where he conversed with legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan. In another event where he was invited as a guest, Chopra recalled an old incident of a shocking 15 seconds on an out-of-control flight and how he reacted when faced with a near-death experience.
Chopra was on his way from Abu Dhabi to Frankfurt when the plane he was travelling in lost control mid-air for scary few moments before stabilising again.
Chopra recalled how it went dark inside the plane and it started diving down at speed. Chopra, who had his headphones on and was late to notice the chaos unfolding inside the plane, recalled what he said next.
“Main kaanon mein headphones laga raha tha, to maine jaise hataye to log ro rahe the. Koi chillaian maar raha tha. Bachche ro rahe the. Main bola saath me mere physio baithe the. Ki yaar chillane se kya hoga. Jaani hai to jaegi neeche, isko koi nahi rok sakta,” Chopra reportedly recollected in Hindi.
Neeraj Chopra shared how children and adults were crying when he removed his headphones. Someone was shouting. He said to his physio who was sitting next to the Olympian, “How will yelling help. It will go down if it has to, no one can stop it.”
The fascinating story and Chopra’s reaction to the scary experience left fans admiring that maturity and calmness he showed as a young person.
