Ravichandran Ashwin made a comeback in India's T-20 team in the 2022 World Cup after producing a robust performance in the Indian Premier League. However, speculation is rife that the 36-year-old may not be able to pull off an ODI World Cup return. Asked in an interview about his prospects, he said selection of the team wasn't his prerogative and he doesn't think like that.

He said in an interview with TOI that it wasn't in his hands to be selected or not. Hence, he doesn't think too much about it. He said he was in a good space in life and cricket, and he would like to keep negativity out of his thought process.

He said he lived for the day and had no unfinished business. He said he wants to see India winning the World Cup again, with or without him.

He also reacted to his old comment on him contemplating retirement, saying, "I did not consider retirement because of injury. That was also probably one of the reasons and I was not sure how I would be recuperating from it because I am not an expert at my body. And then there was some uncertainty around my career and I was just thinking like that. It is very easy to think negatively and that was one phase where I was probably thinking I would not be able to come back from it."

He said at the moment, he was batting and bowling well.

He said he was looking forward to the South Africa series in December this year.
