Motorola recently launched a new budget smartphone, Motorola Moto G14, in India. Motorola has revealed some aggressive plans to capture a huge chunk of the Indian smartphone market in the coming years. A large portion of India's population uses budget smartphones that are easy on the pocket but still offer decent day to day performance. With an aim to cater that audience, Motorola launched the Moto G14 at Rs 9,999 in India. The phone claims to offer ‘elegance, power, and creativity’ in a single device. We got a chance to review the Motorola Moto G14 and here’s what we think of it.

Motorola Moto G14: Design and display

Motorola Moto G14 doesn’t feel like a smartphone that belongs to the sub-Rs 10,000 category. The affordable smartphone looks and feels premium like a mid-range device. The flat finish of the Moto G14 looks sophisticated and neat. The premium Acrylic Glass (PMMA) material and smooth Sky Blue colour does offer a soothing texture to the phones. Other than that the design is pretty much similar to other budget phones available in the market.

The square edges of the smartphone offer a decent grip which makes it easy to use. The right side of the Motorola Moto G14 sports the volume rockers and the power button with integrated fingerprint reader. The buttons are placed appropriately that help to unlock the phone quickly and also provide a confident grip while gaming.

The top end of the device gets a 3.5mm headphone jack and the left edge of the Motorola Moto G14 gets the SIM card tray. A USB-C charging port, microphone and speaker grille are placed at the bottom edge of the smartphone. The phone features a smartly placed dual-camera setup at the rear with ‘50MP’ and ‘Quad Pixel’ branding. The camera island isn’t large like the most smartphones in this segment which offers it a premium appeal.

At the front, the Motorola Moto G14 features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display with 1080X2408 pixels resolution. The display gets a punch hole notch at the centre that houses a selfie camera. The front also gets thick bezels that does take the charm away, however the easy to use UI settles the score for it.

The display of the Motorola Moto G14 offers optimum brightness and it is not very harsh on the eyes. The display offers vibrant output and we did not face any issues with the viewing angles either.

Motorola Moto G14: Performance

Motorola Moto G14 is powered by a Unisoc T616 octa-core chipset under the hood. The chipset is quite reliable and known for its decent performance in budget smartphones. The Unisoc chipset in the Motorola Moto G14 is paired with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS2.2 storage. The storage can be expanded up to 1TB through a microSD card. The smartphone offers smooth day-to-day performance and we didn’t face any lag while switching apps. We ran multiple social media and streaming apps on the smartphones simultaneously and we surprisingly did not face any issue.

The Motorola Moto G14 runs Android 13-based MyUX operating system out of the box. The customisable OS surprisingly doesn’t have any bloatware, making the device really easy to use and set up. The OS offers tons of customisation options that allow you to sync better with the smartphone. The user interface is quite simple which adds to the ease of use. For daily usage, this device will easily cater to your needs without much hassle.

Gaming and streaming performance of the Motorola Moto G14 is at par. Heating was not an issue on the Motorola Moto G14 but the chipset and display aren’t suitable for long gaming sessions. We played a range of games on the Motorola Moto G14 including Subway Surfers and Call of Duty: Mobile. It is worth noting that we were playing the game on medium graphics, keeping the specifications of the phone in mind. However, the stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos do add to the experience and eliminate the requirement of headphones.

Motorola Moto G14: Camera

In terms of camera, the Motorola Moto G14 gets a dual lens setup at the rear that consists of a primary 50MP sensor and secondary 2MP camera. The images that we clicked from the Motorola Moto G14 turned out to be pretty decent. The camera app is quite quick and easy to use. Another thing worth appreciating about the Motorola Moto G14 camera is the user interface.

We also tried our hand on the portrait and other modes in the camera app. The modes use AI to add effects to the images. Keeping the price of the smartphone in mind, the output was at par. Under low-light, the Motorola Moto G14 was struggling a bit and the images were quite grainy. At the front, the Motorola Moto G14 gets a 8MP camera. The punch-hole selfie camera is quite clear and produces decent photos to share on social media platforms.

Motorola Moto G14: Battery

The Motorola Moto G14 is backed by a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 20W fast charging. The charging brick is bundled with the package. Motorola claims that the massive battery of the budget phone offers 94 hours of video playback. During our review we found that the phone can easily last more than a day with mixed usage that includes light gaming, video streaming, social media and video calls.

Motorola Moto G14: Verdict

The Motorola Moto G14 is an easy to use and performance oriented smartphone for anyone who is looking for a budget device with powerful specs. At a price of Rs 9,999, the Motorola Moto G14 does offer a lot more than the competition when it comes to features and apart from it, everything is at par with the rivals.
