81% of swine flu patients in Pune have recovered, says civic body

The statistics related to the number of swine flu cases recorded this year, shows that the disease is now under control. Out of the 472 cases reported, 384 patients have already recovered and have been discharged from PMC-run hospitals.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials have assured the citizens that swine flu cases in the city are likely to reduce this month, due to the preventive measures undertaken and swift treatment being given to the patients.

The statistics related to the number of swine flu cases recorded this year, shows that the disease is now under control. Out of the 472 cases reported, 384 patients have already recovered and have been discharged from PMC-run hospitals.

Talking to iamin, ST Pardeshi, chief medical officer, Health Department, PMC said, "In comparison to Mumbai and Nasik where the H1N1 virus is spreading rapidly, Pune is doing much better as the swine flu situation is coming under control." He then further added that approximately 25 to 30 cases have been detected since the last week and the number of critical patients has reduced significantly.

"Most of the deaths reported due to swine flu are because of the late detection of the disease. People must consult a physician as soon as they observe symptoms of swine flu,” added Pardeshi.

Pune-based general physician, S Jadhav, said, "We get a lot of enquiries about vaccinations and how effective they are. People must remember that vaccinations for swine flu are available and effective but there are other precautions which can be taken. One of which is maintaining hygienic and carrying camphor along with them when they are at public places." She also added that a nutritious diet and keeping fit is very important to build a strong immunity againt such diseases.
